Super November became his debut feature film and was premiered at the Glasgow Film Festival in 2018. The film was nominated for a BIFA Discovery Award and was enjoyed by critics and audiences alike. The film was supported by Screen Scotland, who awarded a Distribution and Exhibition Fund to the film, which was screened across cinemas in England and Scotland.
Element Pictures (The Favourite, Room, Normal People) optioned the TV rights to Super November and Douglas is currently developing the project with the company. He is also working on a treatments for a TV series and a feature film with his frequent collaborator Josie Long for Various Artists Ltd (Sally4Ever, Dead Pixels).
A pair of his short films were taken on a 28 date Picturehouse Cinema tour of the UK, which is currently the most successful theatrical release of short films in Europe. Douglas co-created the BBC Radio 4 series ‘Romance & Adventure’ which was based on his short film of the same name.
His feature film ‘Evie’ was selected for the Edinburgh International Film Festival’s Talent Lab Connects script development program, facilitated by script editor Kate Leys. With funding from Screen Scotland, Douglas also put the project through the Stowe Story Labs (Vermont, USA) Feature Campus programme with David Pope.
Douglas has directed several shorts for BBC Scotland’s Short Stuff, and has recently directed a taster tape for a comedy series at BBC Scotland.
He teaches filmmaking part time at the University of the West of Scotland and sits on the board of Braw Talent, a social enterprise dedicated to bringing the arts and creativity to young people.
